Bulan Lampshade is an elongated handcrafted rattan pendant with a beautifully fluid woven structure. Its narrow top gently opens into a taller rounded body, while slender rattan lines create a continuous wave-like pattern across the entire surface.
The weaving is what defines the character of Bulan. The direction of the rattan changes from one horizontal section to the next: lines converge, separate and continue into each other in a carefully composed rhythm. This gives the surface depth and movement while keeping the overall construction remarkably light and open.
The craftsmanship becomes particularly clear up close. Each slender piece of rattan carries subtle natural variations in tone and shape, while the hand-finished connections remain visible as part of the design. Bulan needs no additional ornament - its expression comes from proportion, repetition and the precision of the weaving itself.
The open construction leaves generous spaces between the rattan lines, allowing light to pass freely through the shade. In the evening, its graphic pattern becomes even more pronounced, with the curved structure creating an intricate interplay of light and shadow around the lamp.
At 35 cm in diameter and 65 cm high, Bulan has elegant vertical proportions. Its slender shape works particularly well where height is welcome without adding excessive visual volume - above a small table, beside a bed, in a living room corner or arranged as a group of pendants at different heights.
Bulan is handmade in Indonesia from natural rattan. Subtle variations in colour, the curvature of individual fibres and details of the weave are part of the handcrafted nature of each piece.
