Kawi Lampshade is a voluminous handcrafted rattan shade whose form is shaped almost entirely by the material itself. Long, slender strips fall freely from the top, crossing and overlapping to create a dense yet open silhouette.
From a distance, Kawi appears as a soft rounded volume with a slightly irregular lower edge. Up close, its construction becomes much more expressive: dozens of individual rattan strips, subtle variations in fibre thickness and natural tones ranging from pale beige to warm straw. There is no conventional decorative pattern here - the visual character comes from the way the rattan itself has been worked.
Kawi becomes particularly interesting when illuminated. Small openings remain between the many overlapping layers, allowing light to filter through unevenly and revealing the depth of the structure. In daylight, the natural texture of the rattan takes centre stage; in the evening, the shade creates a softer, more intimate glow with light appearing between its layered fibres.
With a diameter of 50 cm, Kawi has a noticeable presence while remaining versatile in scale. It can sit beautifully above a dining or coffee table, beside a lounge area, in a bedroom or as part of a composition of several pendant lights. Its natural colouring works easily with wood, linen, stone, ceramics and other tactile materials.
Kawi is handmade in Indonesia. The free arrangement of the rattan strips, subtle variations in tone and natural irregularities of the fibres give each lampshade its own individual texture and character.
