Laya Black Lampshade is a large handcrafted pendant shade made from natural pandanus, with a silhouette built across three distinct levels. Each tier gradually widens towards the bottom, creating a strong architectural outline, while long loose fibres soften the geometry and give the piece a more relaxed, fluid character.
This contrast is what makes Laya Black so distinctive. The upper section has a clearly defined tiered construction, while the lower edge is intentionally left free. Fine strands of pandanus fall at different lengths, overlap, separate and leave irregular spaces between them. The silhouette never feels completely static - it changes subtly depending on the angle and the natural movement of the fibres.
Black brings remarkable depth to this texture. In daylight, individual strands, woven sections and transitions between the tiers become visible; in the evening, the silhouette appears more graphic. Light filters through the irregular weave and loose fibres rather than meeting a dense, solid surface.
At 60 × 70 cm, Laya Black has enough presence to hold its own within a room. It works beautifully with high ceilings, open living spaces, generous bedrooms and interiors where lighting is considered an important part of the composition. Against a quiet light background, its dark silhouette becomes particularly expressive while allowing the intricate texture of the pandanus to remain visible.
