Nuri Lampshade is a generously sized pendant shade handcrafted from natural rattan, combining the lightness of open weaving with a surprisingly intricate construction. Its broad rounded silhouette gently narrows towards a small gathered top, while the 60 cm diameter gives the piece a beautifully balanced presence.
The outer structure of Nuri is formed from slender rattan lines secured by horizontal woven bands. Their direction changes gradually across the shade: the lines open out softly from the top, become more vertical through the centre and converge again towards the lower edge. This rhythm remains visible even from a distance and gives the generous shape an airy quality.
Up close, another detail becomes apparent. Behind the outer weave are additional rattan elements arranged in a different direction. They appear in fragments between the finer lines, so the pattern subtly changes as you move around the lampshade. This layered construction gives Nuri depth while keeping its overall appearance remarkably light.
The open structure allows light to remain largely unobstructed. During the day, Nuri is defined by the graphic quality of its lines and the natural texture of the rattan; when illuminated, the inner layers become more visible and create an intricate play of fine shadows.
Nuri works beautifully in a spacious living room, dining area, bedroom or an open interior with generous ceiling height. It can stand alone as a substantial pendant above a table or be used wherever a larger piece is needed without introducing visual heaviness. Natural rattan pairs especially well with wood, pale plaster, linen, stone and ceramics.
Nuri is handmade in Indonesia. Natural variations in the colour of the rattan, subtle irregularities in the fibres and hand-finished connections remain visible as part of the character of each individual piece.
