Puri Wooden Vase is an expressive piece of Indonesian craftsmanship where traditional wood carving takes on a restrained, contemporary character. Warm natural wood, a softly rounded silhouette and subtle white accents within the carved details create a beautiful interplay of texture without making the design feel overly ornate.
One of Puri's strongest features is its proportion. The vase has a generous width, a substantial upper rim and a gently tapered lower section, giving it a grounded and visually balanced silhouette. In an interior, this shape works particularly well alongside larger elements such as solid wood furniture, mirrors, woven wall pieces, table lamps and sculptural ceramics.
The surface is carved by hand with an elongated vertical pattern arranged across three broad bands. Rather than covering the wood with colour, the artisan keeps its natural tone dominant and uses white within the recessed areas to emphasise the carving. This technique gives the surface additional depth: in daylight or side lighting, the relief becomes especially noticeable while the overall composition remains calm and balanced.
The texture of the material is equally important. The wood is not made to look perfectly uniform - natural tonal variations, traces of hand-finishing and subtle differences between the carved lines remain visible. This is part of the appeal of handmade pieces: they retain the presence of the material and the hand of the artisan instead of looking mechanically reproduced.
Puri can take on different roles within a space. Styled with a tall dried branch or an exotic dried flower, it creates a strong vertical composition. Displayed on its own, the focus shifts to the silhouette, natural grain and craftsmanship. Its 30 × 24 cm size makes it well suited to a console, chest of drawers, wide shelf or coffee table.
From an interior design perspective, Puri is particularly versatile. It naturally complements boho and Bali-inspired spaces, yet its character extends well beyond these styles. Warm wood, hand-carved geometry and muted white detailing also work beautifully in wabi-sabi, rustic, ethnic and contemporary interiors centred around natural materials. Rattan, linen, raw wood, light ceramics, woven fibres and other handcrafted pieces make especially harmonious companions.
Puri is handcrafted in Indonesia, which means no two pieces will be completely identical. Variations in wood grain and tone, carving depth, white detailing and small irregularities are natural characteristics of working with wood by hand and give each vase its individual character.
